Sharing is Caring

adjective lesson: what's in the bag?

Today's class was fun. Dr. Noreen demonstrated an activity that can be carried out in the classroom. We had to volunteer and I was one of the volunteers of course. Anyway, this lesson is suitable for different kind of learners be it kinaesthetic, visual or auditory. I am a visual and kinaesthetic person so I enjoyed the lesson very much. How to carry out this activity?

1. Bring a bag to the class. Make sure it is big enough, preferably the grocery bag (like in the picture ahove) because it is easier to carry and to put things in and to take them out.

2. Bring a few items but make sure they can fit the bag nicely. Make sure the items are those are not from the classroom because students tend to guess it right away.

3. Ask a volunteer to come in front. Secretly show him/her the item (one item at a time) you have in your bag. Ask him/her to write 3 to 5 adjectives on the board to describe the item. Let him/her touch the item if necessary. Now, the rest of the class will guess the item based on the adjectives that their friend provides.

4. Repeat step 3 a few more times.

Suggested items: A doll, pampers, hanger, perfume, mouse, lipstick, camera, jar, slipper etc.

Oh ya! Provide them the scaffolding in the first place. Write on the board a few types of adjectives based on the five senses.

Happy teaching everyone!
